Gardening Basics 2:

Transplanting & Plant Care

Tuesday, May 4, 6:30-8pm

After your seedlings are peeking above the soil, it’s time to transplant into the ground! Learn what, when, and how to transplant. This class will also cover basic plant care such as watering, weeding, and fertilizing.

Gardening Basics 3:

Containers & Tools

Tuesday, May 11, 6:30-8pm

Learn what tools you need to garden and how to use them. This class will also find creative ways to use containers, and will discuss what types of containers are best to plant in. Bring a creative container to plant in such as toys, baskets, shoes, pots, and plastic containers

Garden Stewards

Thursday, May 13, 7-8:30pm

In this class, you will learn which plants are best for your space, lifestyle, and type of soil. It will also teach how to upkeep and maintain your garden space for years to come.


Creative Spaces (for families)

Saturday, May 8, 1-2:30pm

Garden on porch, balconies, driveways, and windowsills! Make a self-watering planter out of buckets, and learn about other creative and low-cost methods to use old materials to grow plants. Build containers to take home or to leave at Green Sprawl.

Cost: Free for members, $5 per family for non-members.

Rain Barrel Workshop

Wednesday, May 19, 7-8:30pm

Stormwater is rain that did not soak into the ground, but instead runs through our communities and becomes dirty. Divert stormwater to your garden by using a rain barrel. Build a rain barrel and take a free barrel home with you.

Cost: Free for Grand Rapids residents who register by Wednesday, May 12. $35 for non-residents.

Ready, Set, Plant! (for youth)

Thursday, May 27, 7-8pm

All kids of any age are encouraged to come transplant seedlings directly into the raised beds at Green Sprawl. Kids will prepare the soil, space the seedlings, and transfer seedlings from seed trays to the ground.
